Gametherapy: Playing Computer and Mobile Games for Problem Solving

    Get PDF
The purpose of this theoretical study is to indicate that when gametherapy or game play therapy is applied, it can be of benefit to game players in giving them insight into their problems, resulting in a change of behavior or attitude. Gametherapy is a developmentally responsive intervention used by psychotherapists, psychologists, counselors, child therapists, medical and rehabilitation professionals, health care practitioners, and often parents as well; but often criticized for lacking an adequate research base to support its growing practice. Game play therapy can appear equally effective across age, gender, and presenting issue. Gametherapy, which can be conducted with individuals or groups, refers to the use of computer and mobile games to assist clients (especially children and young adults) in their healing process. It may be defined as the use of computer and mobile games to help others gain additional insight and to help them cope with everyday life. Most people have probably use games to determine how others have approached a delicate issue. This study suggests that gametherapy is a potentially powerful method for psychologists, counselors, librarians, school teachers, and parents to use on many levels. It begins with various definitions of gametherapy, continues with a discussion of some approaches to gametherapy (developmental, clinical, and interactive), then addresses the four basic stages of gametherapy (identification, selection, presentation, and follow-up), and finally discusses the benefits and limitations of gametherapy

Folks Thesauri or Search Thesauri: Why Semantic Search Engines Need Folks Thesauri?

    Get PDF
The term ‘folks thesaurus’ was coined as a combination of ‘folks’ and ‘thesaurus’. A folks thesaurus puts terms into context by defining a variety of semantic relationships among the thesaurus terms. The objective of this study is to propose and present a conceptual basis from which it will be possible to build a folks thesaurus. The folks thesaurus takes its terminology and usage from a variety of sources (e.g., users' search queries, traditional thesauri, Wikipedia categories, folksonomies, social tagging, hashtags, and log file analysis of search engines). Folks thesaurus describing subject content can play a vital role in supporting web indexing and information retrieval. Folks thesauri are useful in bridging the gap that exists between the concepts presented by authors and the conceptual terms presented by a user/searcher. Folks thesaurus limits the terms available and increases the possibility that the query will use appropriate terms. If the folks thesaurus has structure in the form of associative or hierarchical tree structure and semantic relationships such as broader terms (BT), narrower terms (NT) or related terms (RT), these may also help the user in navigation through hierarchical semantic relationships and finding an appropriate query expression. If a query is too inclusive, then narrower terms may be substituted to refine the query. On the other hand, a query returning too few results can be broadened through the substitution of broader terms. Related terms may also be an aid in navigation and query construction

Les relations bibliographiques entre une œuvre et une autre œuvre selon le modèle FRBR : la perspective canadienne

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of Canadian publications by analyzing their bibliographic relationships based on the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) model. The study indicates frequencies of occurrence of work-to-work bibliographic relationships for manifestations published in 2009 and cataloged in the AMICUS online catalog. Bibliographic relationships have been at the heart of cataloging theory for more than a century. They can be defined as an association, connection, or interaction between different bibliographic entities, or components of entities. The Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) conceptual model is built on relationships between and among bibliographic entities. Bibliographic “relationships serve as the vehicle for depicting the link between one entity and another, and thus as the means of assisting the user to ‘navigate’ the universe that is represented in a bibliography, catalogue, or bibliographic database.” Chapter five of the FRBR Final Report deals specifically with bibliographic relationships. These relationships are frequently expressed through the use of a note that indicates not only that a relationship exists among entities, but also clearly represents the nature of the relationship

Objective: This study aims to determine the feasibility and possibility of indexing English-language journals published by the University of Tehran in international citation indexes (e.g. Web of Science and Scopus). It would also help to find out the reasons why the majority of these journals are not yet indexed in international citation indexes. This study also provides some strategies to increase the international visibility and accessibility of these journals. Materials and Methods: This descriptive survey examined English-language journals published by Scientific Journals Database of Tehran University, available at https://journals.ut.ac.ir. We have used a combination of qualitative and quantitative measures such as journal citation analysis and a checklist. Citation analysis data was collected from Scopus and Google Scholar, and the checklist was designed upon indexing criteria of Web of Science Core Collection Journal Selection Process and Scopus Content Advisory Board. Results: Findings indicate that the total number of citations per journal was low and therefore only 15 percent of these journals were indexed in international databases and there were only two journals comply with all of the minimum acceptance criteria. Some reasons why they are not yet indexed by international citation databases are the irregularity in publishing, lack of description of the peer-review process and lack of publication ethics and malpractice statement. However, the strong points of these journals are proper publication archive, accessibility, and readability of the content to international readerships. Conclusion: This study helps publishers, editors and decision-makers to improve the quality of international journals and give them the rank and the position of being welcomed by a wider scholar community and accepted by international citation databases

The purpose of this study was to design and validate a content marketing process model based on the systematic review of the literature. The research approach of the present study was a combination of two stages. Firstly, using the meta-synthesis method, all dimensions of content marketing are identified and the research model is presented. Then, in order to validate the model, the fuzzy Delphi method was conducted in three rounds. The population of the first stage was consisted of 652 documents in this field, of which 55 were selected. The second population includes 16 experts in the field of content marketing who participated in all three rounds of the Delphi. Content marketing process model was achieved in four stages of planning, production, distribution and communication, measurement and optimization. In each stage, the steps and components necessary to implement the marketing content were identified and explained. Considering the use of two methods of meta-synthesis and Fuzzy Delphi, the proposed model is sufficiently valid and can be used as a roadmap for the establishment and implementation of content marketing performance in different companies and industries

Purpose: In the digital age, web applications work as machines that swallow time rapidly. A new generation tendency to use these tools for entertaining and information gathering has changed their habits in type of selected materials and reading practices. In other words, although users currently receive information from the Internet, they have increasingly become superficial readers who have a little interest to read deeply in digital format. This unwillingness not only changes reading habits of young adults, but also transforms their web browsing and information processing. The present study aims to investigate the effect of digital environment on users’ reading habits. Methodology: We used a case study approach and survey method was used. In this research, a questionnaire was used as a data collecting method. The research population included all undergraduate students in all disciplines (=1000) who study in “Toos Institute of Higher Education”. 100 students were selected as a sample study based on the accessibility principle. Findings: The results indicated that participants commonly believed that the Internet increases interactive reading (56%), expanded reading (44%), and superficial reading (49%). In contrast, it reduces concentrated reading (34%) and in-depth reading (28%). In addition, the Internet increases reading in the formats such as news (63 %), general knowledge (85%), special literature (63%), and pornography (42%). In contrast, it has no any significant impact on religious literature (35%) and literary literature (40%). Originality/Value: Value of this research lies in its effort to show altered reading habits, methods and formats in the digital environment. It can be a useful source for accommodation with new interests and find new methods for deepen reading in these new behaviors
